This is the brunt of how you assign samples to the MIDI keyboard in GarageBand, and the great thing about this is that it will work with the Musical Typing keyboard, a MIDI keyboard connected with an audio interface, or via a more modern USB-C connection. ![]() To assign samples to a MIDI keyboard in GarageBandġ) Open the Sampler with AU Instruments > Apple > AUSamplerĢ) Press the gear icon, then “Add Sample”Ĥ) Eliminate the “Sine 110 Built-In” with the Subtract Buttonĥ) Choose the Key Range, ie, “C-4,” and then the key “C4” So how do you actually go about doing this? Simply put, you can assign a sample to every single key on the keyboard – each one different from the last. This tactic works for not only GarageBand’s Musical Typing feature but also for an external MIDI keyboard that’s connected to your computer. ![]() One thing that I recently learned how to do was assign samples to individual keys. The sad thing about inSSIDer is it stopped being free and became a shareware application from version 3 onwards. Do be aware that NetSpot crashed for us on first run but appeared to work fine after a system reboot. The frequency of the signal strength scanning can be either left at the default of 5 seconds or changed to 10, 30 or 60 seconds. Also available is a Tabular Data window that shows the same data as the graph but in text form. This has a Signal tab which shows a graph of the signal strength over a period of time, the last 5, 30, or 60 minutes can be shown in the window at once. Double click on the target network to open the details window. The program starts in Discover mode which shows available wireless networks along with some general statistics. In addition to a standard WiFi discovery and monitoring section it also has a site survey feature that allows for the relative network signal strengths to be plotted onto a map of your building or local area. NetSpot is a free wireless network signal analysis and troubleshooting tool available for both Mac and Windows computers. Here we list 5 free tools that show a graph for your wireless signal so you can watch it over a period of time to see how it behaves. Watching how your WiFi signal behaves over several minutes or even hours could help identify if the current location for it is ideal or causing problems. To get a better idea how the signal is behaving and whether it gets affected by other factors it’s a good idea to monitor the signal strength over a period of time. Windows and most bundled WiFi software allows you to see how good the current wireless signal is. These include walls, floors, ceilings, electrical appliances, anything emitting radiation or electromagnetism, and of course distance to the router. There are many factors that can affect the quality and strength of a WiFi network connection. If the router is placed in a poor location the signal could be weak, intermittent or cause constant dropouts. Because of that it’s important the WiFi router is placed in the best available location to give the longest range and strongest signal to as many devices as possible. Wireless internet is everywhere these days and you could have several WiFi capable devices connected to your own wireless network. ![]() You can also use OneNote in a web browser. Sure, you could always slowly walk forward and watch the assets transform from low-rez mud to high-rez spectacle, but the distance Virtuos settled on is as close to a Goldilocks range as they could get. Texture filtering and draw distance are both lower (especially in Infinite), but Virtuos made it so textures would gently fade into view rather than abruptly pop-in, which makes the effect virtually unnoticeable while playing the games. There are obvious graphical downgrades here, but you have to go out of your way to spot them. New textures or not, the BioShock trio all remain easy on the eyes, and this has proven a boon for the Switch ports. Sure, the remaster of the first BioShock culled much of the specular lighting that helped set the mood, and the audio mix remains evenly leveled and without reverb, but the art style has aged gracefully. I bring this up, because all three titles run spectacularly on the Nintendo Switch without any dire graphical compromises. If you took umbrage with the choices made in the remasters all those years ago then this second release will do nothing to calm your ire. The work Blind Squirrel put into each remaster remains commendable, but many of their less worthy changes remain. This being The Collection that was ported over means we’re getting BioShock: Remastered and BioShock 2: Remastered – with all their improvements and more questionable alterations. Thankfully, 2K and partner Virtuos have knocked all three games well out of the underwater park and into the stratosphere. While BioShock, BioShock 2, and BioShock Infinite all remain excellent games, a bad port is a bad port, capable of tarnishing even the best games’ luster. BioShock: The Collection has been around for four years now, but the bundle has only just arrived on the Nintendo Switch. ![]() A similar program for Mac is Plex, but this program offers fewer features than Kodi. It took a lot of iteration and brainstorming with everyone involved to arrive at the concept of the shells. The shells were the intersection of our desire to have a class-based system, the player character’s lore, and leaning into our strengths as a team. Can you elaborate on what inspired the team to move forward with this design? The game features a very unique premise that allows players to inhabit different "shells" in order to take up different classes and to provide extra health. This mechanic is more divisive than others, and ends up splitting players: some give up and use consumable items to heal, others may learn to parry against specific enemies they are having a hard time with, and then we have speed and challenge runners who don’t need any healing and tend to exclusively use the offensive ripostes. The intent was to make parrying the primary way to heal. The second most important mechanic in regard to rewarding skill and aggression is the parry/riposte system. We knew right away that we wanted to exclude shields from the player’s arsenal since they, as Bloodborne so eloquently put it, “engender passivity.” At one point, we’d considered having the player find a shield, only to have their character throw it away in disgust. Rewarding aggressive combat and player skill were two important pillars for us right from the start. Can you elaborate on how the team designed it? Mortal Shell has been praised for its methodical, yet offensive-minded combat system. Our ambition and appetite also grew throughout the process and, together, we set out to construct a game with an immersive world and characters in it for players to explore. The atmosphere, overall, got a lot darker than it was initially in Dungeonhaven, taking inspiration from horror themes. Once we developed the core concept of possessing the bodies of fallen warriors, we also created a twisted lore around it and built the world to support it. This is where the game really started to shape its unique flavor and identity, grew vastly in scope and eventually became Mortal Shell. We really gelled with Vitaly and Dmitry Parkin, and at that point, things started to feel a bit like being in a band. When we merged studios with Black Sky Symmetry, it was another game changer. In the end, even though we cut and changed a lot of things throughout development, the core identity of a hardcore third-person action RPG always remained. ![]() There was at one point a miniaturization potion that you could either drink to shrink yourself or throw at an enemy to do the same. Once we did that, we were able to pretty quickly lock in our vertical slice, which we called Dungeonhaven.Īnother big feature we cut was the ability for the player to throw any item in the game. We eventually abandoned the procedural approach: the limitations on environment art, lighting, level design, and gameplay made us decide to return to a more traditional handcrafted approach. ![]() At the same time, we were iterating on what eventually became the harden mechanic. We’d spent quite a bit of time testing the Marketplace plugin Dungeon Architect. Sure, and thank you! In the earliest days of the project, before it was called Dungeonhaven, Anton and Andrew were experimenting with procedural generation. The creative directors go on to explain why using keyframe animations was a better fit for the title than using motion capture and elaborate on how they developed the game’s imposing enemies, unsettling non-linear world, and excellent visuals.Ĭongratulations on the launch and success of Mortal Shell! Considering the game started out as another project, Dungeonhaven, several years ago, can you tell us about the evolution of that project and how it morphed into Mortal Shell? They also share how they walked the fine line between making combat challenging, but never unfair. The trio discuss how they approached designing Mortal Shell’s offensive-minded combat while incorporating an innovative blocking mechanic that provides players new tactical maneuvers within the Souls-inspired genre. To see how such a relatively small studio was able to pack such a tremendous punch, we interviewed Cold Symmetry co-creative directors Andrew Murray, Anton Gonzales, and Vitaly Bulgarov. New studio Cold Symmetry recently made a big splash in the game-development scene with its debut title Mortal Shell, which Trusted Reviews called, “one of the year’s biggest gaming surprises, offering a deep, fascinating journey into a melancholic world that’s well worth taking.” Though the team that worked on the game was relatively small, averaging about 15 members across the title’s roughly two-year development, they’re full of seasoned vets with developers who worked on movies like Alita: Battle Angel and games like Ghost of Tsushima and the Call of Duty franchise. ![]() While the whole point of protective hair styles is to protect your ends, you should also care for your edges.
